For the show broadcast between June 14th and June 20th, 2008
Benjamin warned about the Microsoft attempts coming down the line to push subscription based licensing, but noted that they are looking to help provide a little cash back if you use their search engine. More information on the cash back deal is available by clicking here.
Benjamin also had on a special guest, John Plott, and they talked about digital photography, editing pictures, and flickr.com. Benjamin also mentioned http://mandolux.com/ as a great place for dual (and triple) screen wallpapers. Benjamin had another guest, Pete Kimbrell, who provided a number of details on document imaging, the process of moving us towards a paperless society.
Benjamin covered briefly how to take money on-line using PayPal, noting that the wizards built into PayPal would setup everything for you. Whether charity donations, subscription services, or running a paintball event for your church (like Benjamin did), it's a great way to exchange money safely. Employees are being monitored on-line, and it's getting intense. Benjamin didn't get into a lot of details, but said... don't goof off at work!!!
Benjamin mentioned Bill Gates retirement, then proceeded to pick on Bill for not retiring years ago. Citing the gobs of money, the buggy software, and the bad ideas (like Microsoft Bob), Benjamin noted that Bill would have been better off retiring like a sports star, after winning the Superbowl or the Stanley Cup. Benjamin noted that Bill is retiring after Vista... or is that being put out to the pasture.
Benjamin noted that you can also change your My Music folders location, and Windows XP and Vista will both recognize the new location, like an external hard drive that is 10 times bigger than your current internal drive. He also noted a recent survey that reports that 1 in 5 people have never used e-mail
One of the things that you can't get in the United States, a laptop from Samsung that uses a special silver coating that wipes out germs and bacteria.
Sam called in, noting that his FIOS speeds had slowed down for a couple of hours, but returned later. Benjamin explained that sometimes your internet service provider may have issues which reduce speed, but not actually take down the network. Backup links, as well as links from other service providers going down, may reduce the effectiveness of your broadband connection.
Benjamin also talked to Tom who was looking for information regarding encryption, and if the government struck a deal with Phil Zimmermann, the guy behind PGP. Ed wrote in about a virus that his computer caught, and how a certain well known chain wanted $300 to clean the system and add Symantec software to the computer. Benjamin provided some alternative solutions to spending $300.
Benjamin read off an e-mail from Bob, who wanted to know how to "round up" a version of windows within windows, as well as a backup program for backing up locally for home usage. Benjamin recommended Microsoft Virtual PC 2007, and Avanquest's Perfect Image Professional software for Bob to pickup! You can contact Benjamin and he'll read your question, or have you on-air, and you can do it right here.
Terry asked for details of Expression Web versus DreamWeaver, and Carlos called looking for battery saving tips for his laptop.
Woosh, 2 more hours, flying by!
