For the show broadcast between September 20th and September 26th, 2008
One thing that Benjamin talked about this week is “bloatware.” This is the needless data and programs that come on your computer when you first buy it. These things are completely useless for anything but taking up space. Many companies will now remove it for you when you order the computer, but they’ll charge a handsome fee. Benjamin suggested using PC DeCrapifier, which will do this for free.
Another thing Benjamin covered is Apple sales. Despite the fact that Apple has been behind PC for a long time, its new products like the iPhone and the MacBook Air have created more faith in Apple. Sales are rising and many former pro-PC and anti-Mac people are turning to Macs. Many people credit this to the failure of Windows Vista. Some credit it to the Mac/PC commercials. Apple has now actually surpassed HP in customer satisfaction surveys. People love new technologies, and Apple seems to be benefitting from this more than almost anybody expected.
Additionally, Benjamin interviewed Steve Lipman, the man behind www.1buttontowifi.com. This company allows you to push a button on your phone to connect to your internet and make phone calls from there for a very low cost. This is a great service with a wonderful premise- saving money!
Benjamin also talked about rights. Everyone seems to be talking about rights these days, and two companies have now created a Gamers’ Bill of Rights. Stardock and Gas Powered Games are tired of hearing stories of problems between gamers and game publisher’s and so they wrote this document to establish what gamers can expect in a game. For example, “Gamers shall have the right to re-download the latest versions of games that they own at any time” and “Gamers shall have the right to return games that don’t work with their computers for a full refund.” Benjamin even gave some things that he thought should be added, such as “Gamers shall have the right to get games with quality that matches the generated hype.” If you have anything that you think should be added, please tell him at ComputerTalkRadio.com.
Benjamin also talked with Tony and Gus from Cartridge World USA (www.cartridgeworldusa.com) about the differences between 1st party and 3rd party ink refills, as well as refilled vs original ink cartridges.
