Show notes

For the show broadcast between April 11th and April 17th, 2009

This week Benjamin interviewed Devin from Mozy, an online data backup source. Send them your info and they will back it up on their servers with encryption, safe in case you lose your computer. If you lose your info, go to them and they’ll help you restore your data.

Benjamin also spoke with Daren from mSpot, a service that lets you download ringtones and lyrics to your phones on pretty much any service provider. Check it out at www.mspot.com

Benjamin also covered some news items this week, like the man caught cheating on his wife. The weird thing is: he was caught with Google Street View. This add on to Google Maps gives you a street view of the address you’re searching for. A woman in England who was looking at a friend’s house discovered her husband was cheating on her by seeing his car outside of her house.

Also in the news, a Fox columnist was fired this week for reviewing a pirated Fox film. Roger Friedman, an entertainment columnist for Fox, illegally downloaded and watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Then, in a move that can only be described as “stupid.” Reviewed it and posted the review in which he admitted to downloading it. Friedman not only broke the law, violated copyrights, did something morally wrong, hurt the producers, and risked being caught, but burned his own employer in the process. Wow, good move Roger. Good move…

Additionally, Benjamin talked about the Browser War restarting. 4 years ago, Explorer ran 90% of computers. Now it seems only about 66% are on Explorer. Firefox has reached a hearty 22%, with Safari at 8%. 5 years ago Netscape was dead and everyone but Explorer was barely limping along. Now, it seems, the war is starting again.

Benjamin also talked about e-mail hoaxes, which have been running rampant since the dawn of e-mail. There’s an expansive list of popular ones on the audio below, but all in all, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t. If you have any doubts, check out www.snopes.com, www.hoax-busters.org, or www.breakthechain.com.

In contacts, Mike wrote in asking how he can get contacts to how up in his “to” box when he clicked on it in a new message.
