Show notes

For the show broadcast between January 30 and February 5, 2010

As most of you know, the Apple iPad is funally coming out, and this Apple tablet with a high price point looks like a lot of fun and a cool little gadget, but is it all its built up to be? The nice thing is the large touch screen and memory. Some downsides are, of course, the lack of a camera, a lack of flash support, and no multitasking, all for the price of $400! Wow.

On another note, Larry wrote in asking about having his hard drive replaced and Melvin wrote in about the difference between portables, laptops, notebooks, netbooks, etc.

In his valiant quest to save his listeners time and money, Benjamin also brought us tips on how to save toner and cartridges. One thing to do is to check fonts. Larger fonts use more ink, so smaller is better. Also, if you only need a few pages, don’t print out an entire website or book. For more tips, check out the audio below!

Additionally, Benjamin also brought us tips on extending the lives of our laptops. For instance, its always good to have lots of memory, so check out www.crucial.com. Additionally, you may want to get a new hard drive from time to time. As usual, check out the audio for a full list!

While everyone seems to be worried about proposed internet limits, Mozilla is also voicing concern. They are particularly worried about the fact that when you set up a network, you are liable for anything downloaded from it, legally or otherwise. When someone builds a road, they are not subject to these kinds of liabilities. At the Digital-Life-Design conference, Mitchell Baker of Mozilla voiced this concern and commented on many other technological trends.

In a quick story to cover, astronauts finally have internet in space, and the first Tweet from space has officially been sent! Techies around the globe rejoice! Also, McDonald’s is soon to provide free wi-fi at most stores. We’ll have to see if this carries over to companies owned by them, like Chipotle. Also, congratulations to Microsoft, because Windows 7 is officially the best-selling OS of all time!

Also in Tips and Trick, Benjamin brought us a list of things not to do on the internet, like posting your personal information online or forgetting to install a firewall and antivirus. Of course, these are things everyone should know, so please listen to the audio below!
