For the show broadcast between April 10th and April 16th, 2010
This week, with news rapidly surfacing about the iPhone OS 4, Benjamin brought us all of the new details. Finally, the iPhone can multitask! You can also freeze apps and restore them exactly as they were, sort your apps into folders, and do all sorts of awesome new features.
Also in Apple news, the iPad gets unlimited 3G data for $30/month, with no contract. While this isn’t exactly cheap, but it is a great deal when you consider the average $60 fee for a laptop.
Speaking of the iPad, Benjamin gave us a review of some of its features, like its size, flash storage, and notable lack of a camera or Flash.
He also spoke with Aaron from Rapid Repair (www.rapidrepair.com) about the iPad and the iPhone, about who they are ideal for, and what they offer. While many people joke that the iPad is simply a big iPod touch, there are really many different features that come in the iPad. For instance, now it has a higher definition screen, as well as some multi-tasking abilities, and many others.
Benny came on to talk about the iPad too, and the father and son duo discussed gaming for the iPad, such as the fact that many apps now have a new iPad version available. Amongst the changes included in these new versions is the fact that many are now in High Definition, and look really pretty.
Microsoft has also gotten some news this week, but it is likely just a rumor. With Benny on the air, Benjamin talked about rumors for an Xbox360 “slim,” but didn’t put much stock in it, given that they need to keep the DVD drive in there, which won’t shrink. If they DO release one, it will likely not be much smaller, but I guess every little bit helps.
Also, Benjamin brought us news on the controversial topic of Net Neutrality. For years the FCC has been working to maintain and regulate it, but without the backing of law. Now it seems that the Supreme Court is done letting them do this, and has sanctioned against it.
They also discussed the debate over “copycatting” done by Microsoft, and how Mac fans think that Microsoft copied the OS X. Truth be told, though, the modern user interface was originally inspired by none other than Xerox, so who are the copiers now?
Benny got to answer a question this week too, as Michael had asked at the LA computer Fair about backing up Wii disks. While the process for doing this is of questionable legality, they did walk him through it, stressing that this was for back-up purposes only, not pirating.
Lastly, Benny brought us exciting news about this week’s Xbox update, including the new feature of USB storage for the Xbox. Needless to say, we’re a little excited about this.
