For the show broadcast between April 24th and April 30th, 2010
This week, the entire first hour was dedicated to a very special presentation at the LA Computer Fair, where Benjamin gave a seminar on computer safety.
SEMINAR - Essential Computer Security.pdfThis week, Benjamin brought us some interesting news about the popular site, www.Gizmodo.com, which has apparently BOUGHT a stolen iPhone4 prototype, claimed they found it, wrote an article on it, and is now in a lot of trouble for it. Though the truth of the matter is still shrouded in mystery, lots of speculation surrounds it. Of course, many are claiming it is merely a publicity stunt, and if it is, it sure is working. Whatever really did happen here, obviously they just need to turn the thing over, especially as Apple is likely telling the truth here. DOH!
In other news, it seems that the ash cloud delaying basically every flight into Europe has been majorly overstated. Though the cloud is indeed gigantic, the danger posed by it is significantly less than previously thought. Though computer models established a large risk, actual flights done through the cloud have shown the models to be flawed.
Also, Benjamin told us that police have stopped what appear to be “rent-a-fraudster” services being run by a duo of Belarusian nationals who steal money and identities for hire. While we’re glad they were stopped, this just highlights the threats out there.
Benjamin also interviewed Laine from Wilson Electronics (http://www.wilsonelectronics.com) about cell phone signal boosters to help with getting service in your home. They offer a signal booster for your cell service for exactly this reason. One of their newest products is the Sleek, which is a signal booster which mounts directly on the back of your phone.
Additionally, Benny came on, and he and Benjamin talked a bit about gaming and trends within it, going back even to retro gaming! These trends include processing power, multiplayer, motion sensing, and, of course, general realism. Benjamin even got to have a few moments, something he of course enjoyed, as you will.
Lastly, Carlos asked about programs running in the background of his computer, and Tom asked about tools for fighting viruses and malware.
