For the show broadcast between January 1st and January 7th, 2010
The New Year is here, and this week Benny talked a little about exciting things coming up this year, like Homefront, Portal 2, and Gears of War 3. He also talked about upcoming CES, his plans, and meeting with Gigabyte there.
In the Changing World series, Benjamin talked abot CES and what changes we can expect in technology as a result from the show.
Benjamin also talked a little about the history of CES, which started in 1967 in New York City. From 1978 to 1994, it was held twice a year, once in Chicago and once in Vegas. In 1995, the Chicago show was cancelled, and there was an Orlando one for a short while, but with growing competition from the new E3 Expo, they cut it down to one, which is still the largest trade show in the States.
This week Benjamin also gave some predictions for 2011 in technology, in cluding IE9 and Firefox 4. He also mentioned the possibility of Windows 8, amd Google’s open source Chrome OS. Of course, Benjamin also talked about Nintendo’s 3DS.
He also spoke with McAfee about their predictions for computer threats in 2011. With the ever-growing popularity of computers and the web, viruses are constantly becoming more dangerous, also coinciding with the rise in technological capabilities available to us. Make sure you’re protected!
Additionally, Benjamin talked about some good “Nerd Years Resolutions” and things to do with your computer to start the year right. For instance, clear out old emails and run an intensive virus scan. Also, make sure you have WPA2 wireless encryption, and back up all of your important files.
Benjamin also went over some interesting new statistics, like the fact that people just really don’t seem to like 3DTV. It’s a nice little thing, but it’s expensive and most people don’t think it’s worth it. Also, Facebook has overtaken Yahoo to become the third most trafficked site in the world, and Amazon’s Kindle has become one of the best selling products of all time.
